Y11 GCSE STUDENTS: HOW TO PREPARE FOR YEAR 12 AND UNIVERSITY
Updated: Jul 13, 2022
Hi there,
For lots of you, the past couple of weeks would have been very intense.
You have been working under high pressure and working really hard. But, now that your last exam is done - there may be nothing for you to do. Of course, many of you will be going off on holiday, enjoying summer or getting a part-time job.
Here is what you should think about as you approach results day and the next academic year.
As you move into year 12 whether you tackle A-Levels or BTECs - these will be much more intense. Not only due to the increased workload but, because the concepts and content you learn is simply more challenging.
Preparation for year 12
We recommend all our students go into year 12 with some level of preparation, instead of throwing away your notes/knowledge from months of hard work towards your GCSE.
Here at g2T, we are offering summer revision sessions so that you can brush up on your prior knowledge before you head into your year 12 studies.
Maths revision should consist of brushing up on the key fundamental topics which will be further studied.
Science revisions consists of revising topics which will be studied in greater detail.
English revision involves reading up/getting to know the literature you will be studying in the coming year.
Subjects to continue
It is very important for students to think about the A-level subjects they want to study. Students should spend time thinking about their future career options and the fields they want to study at university. Once you know what you want to study at university, you should look up these courses online via the UCAS course finder and see what the subject requirements are.
This is especially important when you get to the end of year 12 and are looking to apply to undergraduate courses of your choice. At times, students are unaware of their subject requirements and this may make it difficult to receive an offer.
Get into the habit
There is most definitely going to be a massive jump in not only knowledge but expectations of you. You are expected to be a lot more independent - less homework will be given as you need to take charge of your own studies.
In year 12 there may be a mixture of different people who have done GCSEs from different boards and they will have cut out different parts of the curriculum. Your A-level teachers are not going to spend loads of time working out the knowledge gaps students have and then revise them. SO, it would be very helpful if you caught up on this knowledge because many students will have massive gaps. Some of you that have already gone through and filled in the gaps as part of your GCSE exams preparation, this is going to be at a massive advantage.
At g2T we are offering a range of revision courses at customer-friendly prices/discounts - we are here to help our students, to help them achieve academic success. Education is important and you won’t find any other tuition centre offering what we do, at the price we do. You can read through our brochure or contact us at 07735 480 230, to speak to a member of our team to find out what we offer to customers.
Summer learning loss is real and so we recommend tuition to all our students - find out more about learning loss here!
The bare minimum we suggest is to book a session with us, to qualify for a free assessment session where we thoroughly assess the students' knowledge gaps - usually this is worth £25!
