Latest COVID update

There is a lot of confusion and uncertainty over the exam procedure to be adopted for the next academic year due to the ongoing impacts of COVID. Here at g2T, we are keeping track of the latest changes. You can find the latest updates below.

Updates as of July 2021

The government is indicating exams will most likely take place in the next year as per usual.

There are four main changes you need to be aware of:

  1. First, there may be the possibility of students no longer needing to perform the required practical’s (the rule will apply to both GCSE and A-Level). Instead, you will be required to watch a teacher demonstrate the practical, or you would need to watch an online practical.

  2. For both GCSE and A-Level exams, it may be likely for students to get an indication of what they may be tested on in their examination. For example, in your GCSE English Literature exam, you may be told what Act and Scene will come up in the question. Alternatively, you may be told what topics will come up in the exam questions for your Maths exam.

  3. The possibility of receiving support material in the GCSE Maths and Physics exam. Support materials are essential sheets with useful equations which students would often be required to memorise by heart. However, students still need to be aware of how to use and implement the equation.

  4. Reduction in the amount of content students will be tested upon for GCSE English Literature, Geography and History. So, for example, for GCSE English one of the texts you will be tested upon will be removed; for GCSE History a unit you would usually be tested on will be removed, and for GCSE Geography students will no longer be required to perform fieldwork.

So, what is the likelihood of in-person exams taking place?

The DfE and Ofqual are confident students will be able to sit their exams safely. However, they are working on ‘contingency plans’. This is due to extreme uncertainty around COVID; there is a slight chance of further disruption to education in the next academic year, leading to the exam-based testing approach being deemed unfair.

It is important to remain calm and not stress too much - as this can have a negative impact on your exam performance. So, get in contact with us today if you’re interested in boosting your grade and achieving academic success.
