KS4 ENGLISH YEAR 10/11
The new curriculum builds upon the students' knowledge from KS3. It requires students to understand the depth and power of the English literary heritage.
Most students in Year 9 would have covered challenging texts such as 'An Inspector Calls' (the text covered depends on your child's school). In Year 10 students will build upon this by critically evaluating texts through specific writing techniques. The curriculum is designed to study and analyse a range of text types. So, Year 10 and 11 will continue their development covering the remainder of the AQA Literature sets texts and improve their critical writing skills to be ready for their GCSE examinations.

The KS3, the curriculum is wide and varied. It entails students covering the literature from across time and genres. Students need to understand thematic links between texts from Gothic to Shakespeare. Texts to be covered could be poetry, drama or prose. Students need to ideally develop an interest in the texts to be covered and develop basic critical writing skills. This will all ultimately give students a smoother transition into the KS4 syllabus. There is a particular focus on the grammar/spelling along with improving the accuracy/structure of the students writing.
